Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas Member of Parliament John-Paul Danko recently made a special visit to the Dundas Modular Railway Club at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36 in Dundas. The visit gave the MP an up-close look at the club’s intricate model railroad layouts and an opportunity to meet with hobbyists who bring miniature railroading to life.

MP Danko jokes that he is a retired model railroader, having built an extensive model train layout in his teen years.

Club members showcased their two main displays: an expansive HO-scale layout measuring roughly 30 by 15 feet and a detailed N-gauge modular setup. The HO layout, known as the Dundas and Mineral Springs Railway, evokes mid-20th-century Southern Ontario and features both Digital Command Control (DCC) and traditional DC operation. The N-gauge section, styled after the Leadenham Station line in Lincolnshire, England, reflects the era of steam and early diesel trains.

Danko praised the club for fostering community engagement and preserving a beloved pastime that bridges generations. “This remarkable space celebrates creativity, history, and camaraderie,” he said. “It’s inspiring to see volunteers share their passion for railroading with visitors of all ages.” The club meets weekly and welcomes newcomers interested in model railroading, offering both a social hub and a hands-on creative outlet.
