Residents across Ancaster came together on Saturday, March 7 for the 34th annual Ancaster Community Food Drive, a long-running community effort that collects food and financial donations for local organizations supporting families in need.

Volunteers canvassed neighbourhoods throughout the morning, picking up non-perishable food donations left on residents’ porches and bringing them to the Ancaster Fairgrounds for sorting.

Donations from the drive support eight community agencies coordinated by Ancaster Community Services that provide emergency food assistance and related programs for seniors, families, and individuals facing food insecurity.

Among those taking part this year was John-Paul Danko, Member of Parliament for Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas, who joined volunteers canvassing and sorting donations. Danko said the event highlights both the strength of community spirit and the growing need for support as many households struggle with rising costs.

“Many residents across Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, and across Canada are feeling the pressure of the cost of living, especially the affordability of groceries,” Danko noted during the event. “Community initiatives like the Ancaster Community Food Drive show how neighbours come together to make sure no one is left behind.”

Organizers say the drive has grown steadily since it was first launched by local faith leaders more than three decades ago, becoming one of the area’s largest volunteer-led charitable initiatives. Over the years, the event has collected millions of pounds of food for community agencies serving Ancaster and the surrounding Hamilton area.

Residents who wish to learn more or contribute to the initiative can visit the Ancaster Community Food Drive website at ancasterfooddrive.ca or follow updates through the organization’s Instagram page @ancastercfd

With strong participation from residents again this year, the annual drive continues to play an important role in helping local organizations respond to the increasing reliance on emergency food supports.
