Members of LiUNA Local 837 were recently recognized at a special celebration honouring members who have dedicated 25, 30, and 40 years to the union and to building Hamilton.
The event brought together union leadership, members, and elected representatives from all levels of government to celebrate the skilled tradespeople who help shape the city’s homes, roads, transit systems, and essential infrastructure. Speakers highlighted the demanding nature of construction work — early mornings, long days, and an unwavering commitment to safety and quality — and the pride that comes from building projects that last.

The celebration took place at a moment of strong opportunity for the skilled trades. Federal investments in housing and infrastructure are helping drive construction activity across the region, supporting good, stable union jobs while addressing Canada’s housing needs. Continued funding for apprenticeships and training is opening pathways for young workers to build secure careers in the trades.
Local priorities were also underscored, including the Hamilton LRT, described as a transformational project that will create jobs, improve mobility, and support long-term growth.
Above all, the evening was about gratitude — thanking LiUNA members for decades of dedication, craftsmanship, and service that continue to strengthen Hamilton’s economy and communities.
